About Rodolfo
Rodolfo Sanchez's sculptures are the product of Colombia's art transition to a modern esthetic. His work converges from a rich historical experience, where pre-Columbian geometric patterns intersect in a modern dialogue with the works of sculptor Eduardo Ramirez Villamizar and the geometric painter Omar Rayo. Sanchez’s dialogue was expanded to a more universal level during his doctoral studies in Arts and Sculpture from Granada University (Spain) under the tutelage of Jorge de Oteiza. Sanchez also counts Tony Smith and Donald Judd as core influences of his work.
In his elegant use of negative space, Sanchez makes the absence of form one of the strengths of his oeuvre by allowing the spectator a more intimate experience. In the interaction of light and shadows, the sculptural plane expands by providing a second immaterial realm that enriches the visual experience. This effect is more palpable in his monumental work where the spectator is given a direct, life-size interaction.
Rodolfo's Sanchez sculptures have been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums worldwide, including Colombia, France, Argentina, Mexico, South Africa, Egypt, Kenya, Morrocco, Lebanon, Spain, France, Italy, and the United States.
